Inspiration:
For the art on this piece I chose to emulate one of Roy Lichtenstein's pieces because it goes well with the style/medium I used for this piece. Pop art is a part of culture no matter what era we're in. Iconic/Popular media is what is tend to focus on. For this I created a graphic of a female's eyes wearing a pair of glasses. The glasses might seem like it's a random piece I added on there to take up space. In reality glasses have become a part of our modern day pop scene. They've made an impact in out pop culture by becoming a fashion staple. Whether they wear glasses or not some people (especially the teens) were wearing glasses just because it was THE hip or "cool" thing to do. Process:
This project was fairly easy to create. There wasn't any sketching done on the picture depicted above because it was all digital. The only problem I came across this was my laptop dying before saving my files. Luckily I managed print out all the graphic before that happened. The process was simple. I found a reference image of the glasses and traced it using the Pen Tool. Then I duplicated it underneath with an offset to give a slight side view with a 3-D effect.. later I created the eyes and eye brows using the pen tool again. Filled in any major spots with the Blob Brush and duplicated it in order to have four different images. To each image I changed the color way to give it a Warhol touch to it. |
Title: Street Pop Art
Medium: Mixed Media (Print on Priority Mailing Sticker) Size: 12 in x 9.5 in Inspiration: Label 228 Sticker Art, Roy Lichtenstein Exhibition Text: This piece was more experimental more than anything. As with my self portrait I wanted to see how the audience would react to react to a street art style in a fine art environment. I drew my inspiration from the Priority Mail sticker art subculture of street art as well and the repetitiveness of pop art in Roy Lichtenstein's style of pop art. Inspiration (contd.):
The other thing I was inspired by was the priority mail sticker the art is featured on. It was primarily to bring in the street art community into a fine art scene. This illicit form of art has been around for years now. It's a free and in expensive way for street artist to create their art and spread it all over their home towns. Some even trade so that their art put out in the streets of a different town, state, and even country. The point of putting your art on a priority mail sticker is not to be mischievous or to be a vandal, it is to spread the art and the message around. When the world is the gallery it can be seen by thousands of people. |
